October Nursery News

Baby Moons – This month in Baby Moons, we have been exploring a variety of different textures through engaging sensory experiences using our emotion puppets and colourful sensory scarves. The children have enjoyed feeling the different materials — soft, silky, rough, and smooth — and watching how they move through the air. These activities have encouraged the babies to express their feelings and reactions in new ways, whether through smiles, sounds, gestures, or movement. By linking texture exploration with our emotion puppets, we are helping the children begin to recognise and communicate different emotions, supporting their early social and emotional development in a fun, hands-on way.

Teenie Moons- In October, the children have been busy exploring the great outdoors and getting hands-on with seasonal activities. We've enjoyed going on bug hunts in the garden, where the children excitedly searched for insects and observed them ~ we even found a cute caterpillar. We also explored with textural play using natural items the children collected themselves in the garden. We collected crunchy leaves and sticks which became a sensory delight, encouraging creativity and imaginative play and sparked a lot of conversations which then naturally encouraged children’s vocabulary to extend

Mini Moons- In September we have been exploring dinosaurs! The children took part in a range of activities where they dug up the bones and created their own footprints! The minis have also been developing their counting skills and early stages of number recognition. We have been using loose parts to count quantities and have been engaging in number focussed songs, such as five speckled frogs and once I caught a fish a live.

Full Moons- This month, the children have been busy exploring the wonderful changes that autumn brings! The children enjoyed leaf printing activities, looking closely at the different shapes and patterns we could see. We talked about the colours we found in nature and experimented with mixing paint to create our own autumn shades. We also went on an exciting autumn scavenger hunt in the garden, searching for pinecones, acorns, and leaves of all colours. The children used great teamwork and observation skills to find everything on their list! Using the leaves we collected, we did lots of maths-based activities such as counting, sorting by size and colour, and making repeating patterns. This helped us develop our number recognition and problem-solving skills in a fun, hands-on way
