NURSERY NEWS – October 2026

Our Room Topics –

Baby Moons – This month, we have been
exploring the wonderful world of animals! The
babies have been learning about different animals,
the sounds they make and where they live. We have
enjoyed getting messy with straw and spaghetti
during our farmyard sensory play, exploring the
different textures and using our imaginations to
create our own farmyard. We have also been
learning all about mini beasts and the tiny
creatures we can find in our gardens. Together, we
made a bug house in the garden, giving us lots of
opportunities to explore nature and discover the
little creatures living around us.

Teenie Moons- This month, we have continued
our learning all about animals! We also went on a
lovely walk to the woods, where we explored the
natural environment and learned about where
different animals live and what they like to eat.
Back at nursery, we have been helping to take care
of our snails. We have enjoyed feeding them
delicious apple and gently brushing their shells to
help keep them nice and clean.

We have also had lots of fun splashing in puddles in
the garden! We experimented with adding paint to
the big puddles and watched as the colours mixed
together.

Mini Moons- In September, we have been
continuing to develop their fine motor grasps
through a variety of activities, such as drawing,
moulding the playdough and practicing our cutting
skills using the scissors. This has led us onto
working on our gross motor skills, where we have
been balancing along obstacle courses and the
textures stepping stones on the garden. The
children have been exploring the topic what we
want to be when we grow up and have been learning
about different peoples jobs, such as the police,
vets and firefighters. The children have engaged in
lots of discussions and role play opportunities
during this.

Full Moons- This month, we have been learning
all about plants and their different parts. We have
learned a new song about the parts of a plant and
have enjoyed singing it together. We have also
been exploring the changes that happen during
autumn. We looked at different types of leaves,
measuring and comparing their sizes and shapes, as
well as observing the beautiful range of colours
they change to during this season.
We were also lucky to have Angela from Childsmile
visit us. She talked to us about the importance of
brushing our teeth and helped us learn about foods
and drinks that are good for our teeth and those
that we should enjoy less often.
