NURSERY NEWS – July 2026
Our Room Topics –
Baby Moons –
In Baby Moons have been developing our gross motor skills through using the soft play equipment. The children enjoy climbing over the soft play shapes, which helps to build their strength, balance, and coordination. The children also liked crawling through the tunnel, helping them to develop their movement and body control. We have also been using the parachute where the babies enjoy lifting, shaking, and moving it together. This helps to develop their arm strength, coordination, and listening skills while encouraging them to engage with their peers.
Teenie Moons- Within Tennie moons in June we have enjoyed our trip to the library for the book bug session where we joined in with songs and stories. It was great being involved with our local community. We have been enjoying reading our favourite sorry book of the hungry catterpillar which sparked a bit interest in insects - during our garden play we have been looking for different types of insects and spoke about what they may eat. We have been enjoying painting pictures of our favourite insects too using loose parts resources and our fingers.
Mini Moons-
This month in Mini Moons we have been exploring our different senses. The children tried different fruits and explored the sweet and sour tastes. The children also felt different textures of objects in a blacked out bag and guessed what the objects were. We created lots of different loud and quiet sounds with the musical instruments and created different smelling potions too. For our sight, we created telescopes and binoculars with different coloured cellophane at the end and explored our garden, seeing the colours changing in the natural environment. The children have also been learning about germs and how we stay safe with handwashing. We washed the germs away off of the animals in the tuff tray using soap and water, making them all squeaky clean!
Full Moons- During June, we explored a variety of exciting topics. Around the full moon, we learned about animals that live under the sea and discovered the different creatures that inhabit our oceans. We also enjoyed planting flowers, learning what plants need to grow, and watching them develop. The children explored the different parts of a flower, discussed their functions, and learned how to care for plants by watering and looking after them. As part of our focus on health and wellbeing, we talked about ways to keep our bodies healthy and active. The children took part in yoga, dancing, and a range of gross motor activities to help develop their strength, balance, and coordination. We also spent time talking about the next exciting step for the children who will be starting school, helping them prepare for the transition by discussing what they can expect and encouraging confidence and enthusiasm for this new adventure.
