Baby Moons – In Baby Moons this month, we have been focusing on healthy foods and making positive choices. As part of this learning, the children participated in baking healthier brownies, where we substituted chocolate with bananas. This provided a fantastic opportunity to explore the concept of healthy eating in a fun and practical way. The children thoroughly enjoyed the process of measuring ingredients, adding them to the bowl, and mixing them together — a wonderful hands-on experience that supported both their fine motor skills and early understanding of food and nutrition.
Teenie Moons- This month our main focus was on “caring for others” so far we have been exploring with caring for dollies within the playroom - washing them, feeding them and changing their nappies and clothing. The children enjoyed looking through cook books and picking lunch ideas for their dolls and then we made them out of pretend food and sat the dolls in high chairs to feed them. We have started our daily makaton time with the children supporting and encouraging more ways of communication skills within the playroom. The children have so far enjoyed learning the signs for fruits & vegetables and they all are really eager to join in within the activity.
Mini Moons- This month in Mini Moons, the children have been exploring the weather, with a particular focus on sunny days. We have been learning about the importance of sun protection and why it is essential to wear sun cream when playing outdoors. The children also engaged in discussions about how sunglasses and sun hats help to keep us safe and comfortable in the sun, supporting their understanding of personal safety and well-being.
Full Moons- June has been a joyful and expressive month in the Full Moons room as we explored the wonderful world of music and emotions! We began by learning about different genres of music, from classical to jazz, pop to rock. The children listened closely to each style and shared how the music made them feel— happy, calm, excited, or even a little sleepy! It was a beautiful way to start conversations about our feelings in a fun and engaging way. Building on this theme, we transitioned into a focus on emotions. Through a variety of activities, the children learned to identify and express how they feel. Some highlights included using emotion puppets in a puppet show, where children acted out different scenarios, and looking into mirrors to explore and mimic facial expressions, helping them understand what different emotions might look and feel like
